Description
At Fish Key West, we know nothing spells Key West fishing fun like a frenzied bite on light tackle when the boat has 3, 4, or more fish on at once. The Key West Private Inshore Light Tackle Fishing Charter from Fish Key West gives you a chance to experience saltwater light tackle fishing action in the place where the techniques and gear were developed and refined. But you get to skip but the hours spent pounding offshore through the swells.
This is the ideal trip if you are looking for the perfect family fishing adventure, a chance to let beginners get their lines wet without a long offshore run, or just a morning of entertaining fishing and some fillets for the lunch table. You go out in a unique inshore fishing vessel: a medium-sized open boat originally designed to carry captains, crew members, and cargo between the shoreline and large ships. It delivers exciting close-up fishing action and an experience that is ideal for folks who simply love boat rides. And it is also the type of boat that is great for touring along the scenic Key West shoreline.
Key West sportfishing is legendary, but one of the island’s little-known secrets is that the inshore Backcountry flats, channels, and mangrove islands—spots just minutes from land—hold swarms of fish. With an expert captain and guide in a small boat that can work the shallows and sit right over small pieces of bottom structure, you can hit the honey holes and fill the coolers with Mangrove and Yellowtail Snapper, Sea Trout, Grouper and who knows what else? The waters close to shore teem with shrimp, crabs, and the small fish that big fish feed on. Sharks, Barracuda, Mutton Snapper, Snook–the possibilities and catches change with the seasons and water conditions.
The really nice thing about an Inshore Key West Light Tackle Fishing Charter trip is that you can fish, sightsee, and just generally enjoy a boat ride on calm waters close to shore. For family fishing or a fun, relaxing trip, it is not always the best idea to run far out to sea and fight the waves, wind, and sun in search of deep-water trophies. Kids are certainly going to be more excited to have their lines in the water within a few minutes, then look over the side of the boat to see fish swirling around the bait just before the rod tip bounces and it’s time to start reeling. Fishing from a smaller craft makes the experience up-close, personal, and far more thrilling for everyone.
And while the shallow-water multi-species action is definitely great for the kids and casual recreational anglers in the crew, that does not mean more serious fisherman will be bored. When a Barracuda nearly a yard long burns most of the line off your reel on its run, and Lemon, Blacktip, or even Hammerhead Sharks start homing in on the chum slick and circling the boat, no one can deny that the real fishing is on. This is the amazing part about a Key West Private Inshore Light Tackle Fishing Charter–you never know what might turn up next.
If you just like a nice boat ride, this charter is available for island cruising with a small group. There is lots of comfortable seating, plenty of shade, a clean restroom, and 360-degree views. Take your group on a tour of Key West’s shoreline, historic harbors, and beauty spots like Wisteria Island and Sunset Key. Bring a snack or bag lunch and enjoy complimentary water, soda, and ice-cold premium beer to have an onboard picnic while watching the scenery go by.
The boat used for these Fish Key West nearshore Key West fishing charter trips and island tours may be smaller than some of the other sportfishing craft in the harbor, but it is pound-for-pound tougher and safer than many larger boats. It was built with industrial-grade strength and durability, made for a working life of carrying up to 50 people and a lot of gear between ship and shore day in and day out. You can fish or tour with confidence in a vessel that is inspected and certified annually by the United States Coast Guard for carrying charter passengers, with a licensed master captain at the helm, and an experienced first mate to help with bait, tackle, and boating fish.
Count on Fish Key West to hook you up with a good time whether you are into hot light tackle fishing action, getting pictures of your kids’ smiles when they hold up their first fish, or just a mellow touring cruise with family and friends. Our secure online booking system can have you set up with a Key West Private Inshore Light Tackle Fishing Charter within a few clicks, and our friendly Fish Key West customer service team is always ready to help out with details and answers to your questions.
